My journey … so far
Me? Where did I come from? The land of ice and snow.
Buffalo, NY, that is. THAT ice and snow. Nothing from a book or movie or anything. No, I got my start writing for a sports blog following the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. From there, I began a professional writing career that has spanned three cities, 13 years and two major moves: One from Buffalo to Abilene, Texas. The other took me back home.
I love to write about people. Originally, I studied poetry writing and earned my bachelor’s degree in creative writing. But, professionally, I wrote about education in my journalism career. Why education? Because you get to know a lot of interesting people. Teachers who go all-out decorating their rooms for Halloween. Students who jump for joy at the thought of dissecting a shark in biology class. Parents who drive six hours one-way to ensure their sick kid gets to their cancer treatment so they can survive childhood.
Literally survive. This isn’t a game.
All of these people are precious in my view. Because we are those people. Humanity looks to better itself with each generation. And I love being there to sketch their journey with words. And, as you’ll see here, photographs. Though I’m not quite professional there. I’m still working on my image-capturing skills. But I have some great teachers helping me.
Feel free to reach out and let me know what you think.
